Several studies have found high levels of pathogens (bacteria) on and in between the nooks and crannies of raised key keyboards. The keyboards in question were standard non Medical and so called Medical grade keyboards with features such as; washable, water-proof, dishwasher safe and low profile keys. Unless a Medical keyboard has a 100% flat surface design, users can not clean quickly or thoroughly enough. Once a fit for purpose CliniTech easy clean keyboard is installed, pathogen swab testing can show a 80-90% reduction in pathogen load, with just one cleaning action.

It's recommended to regularly evaluate the types of Medical keyboards you have installed onsite. We continue to see projects using keyboards with raised keys, they may be water-proof or wipeable, however due to the nooks and crannies between keys they are hard to wipe clean, so pathogens can remain. Only a 100% flat surface can guarantee a sanitised keyboard. Staff are also more likely to clean often, as the cleaning action is so easy and quick. Flat should not be at the detriment of key typing and feel.
